The Obama Era...

OBAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!woooohooooo. Wow!!! I just watched the speech!!!OMG. America, History has just been made! I dunno what to say really, Im over the moon. Its as if he is MY president. As an Iraqi I have my hopes on this man.

Change, change, change. Change is on its way. Change to the vicious Bush administration. The Bush administration that lied, tricked, conned the world, and most of all conned the Iraqis.

Today is a different day. A brighter day. A brighter day for everyone who wanted and believed in change. For me, this is not just about history, this is about someone who was able to bring down the very people that broke my country. It’s a great punch to the very people that destroyed the individual Iraqi. And that to me is an enough victory.

I will only have to say to Mr Obama, don’t let us down. You came thus far, and as an Iraqi Im depending on you. Don’t let dirty politics break your promises. There are a few Iraqis who I have asked whether they’re happy at the outcome. Surprisingly, I heard tones filled with fear, fear and confusion. “Whats gonna happen to us, Neurotica?” They asked. “Will America leave us? What will happen to Iraq”

I didn’t really reply, all I said was “Change is on its way”. “Bad change or good change?” They asked. “Inshallah a good one” I said and left it at that. As for the males in my family, too bad your man didn’t win! Although its strange, its strange because we all want peace for Iraq, we all want the same end, a happy ending, yet the means is different. And for me Obama is the means. The perfect Means that justifies the end. Yes this time it does justify the end.

I learnt a few lessons in life, and that is to never ever over expect things from individuals, but in this instance I am. I am expecting many things from Obama. And disappointment is NOT one of them. As for all the red neck extremists out there, for all you people who cannot fathom how a black American can be your president, Tough luck. Live with it.

I wonder how the Iraqi government reacted to the news. Must be a blow to them. A great blow. Yaaaaaaaaaaay. Yeah about time. About time, for five years they got what they wanted. They got what they wanted on the Iraqi individual’s account. They preyed on my people. They tore them apart. For five years they slept soundly knowing that Bush is there. Bush is there to protect these vultures. But change is on its way. I pray to god, I pray that Obama will have the balls to say NO to them. NO and ENOUGH.

It’s a beautiful clear sky today. A BLUE sky. The start of a new era. The Obama Era…

Guess it is good to be optimistic. America don't change their policy, they only change to man. Bush is gone and Obamah is on seat!!

Tell you what? if they paint the Whitehouse black, I would believe there is changes coming!!

Obama's Black?! OMG when did this news come out!?!?(and I thought the race thing had something to do with NASCAR :) Well, time will tell where Obama's leadership leads, but don't ever count your chickens before they're hatched, fried and served up with mashed potatos and gravy(my own redneck proverb). Even some of us hated Americans are willing to give him his chance. Solo

Change has Come =))

Yes, it is good to see the Americans finally vote for someone with an education! The Republican party has increased the tax load on all Americans, but the massive debt, but the 'wingers' have trouble clueing into that one. Obama has a HUGE hole to dig America out of, left to him by Mr.Bush & Cheney. Even if he can get America back to where it was 8 years ago, that would be a major accomplishment.
Now all that has to happen, is Mr.Bush and Cheney have to be brought to the Hague.

Neurotica, I carefully watched Obama during the speech and one thing that struck me is that Obama was not smiling and I'm not saying that literally he was not but it was a very nervous smile (compare to Joe Biden's and you'll know what I mean), the kind of smile you see when one of us is in a very friendly environment with family and friends yet you are worried for reasons so profound that you can't share with the rest of your family which makes fake a smile or a laugh to keep things going. My guess is that he realized what is coming ahead, the responsibility of living up to the expectations of not only America but literally the entire world after eight years of a disastrous presidency and this is a HUGE task. I wish he surrounds himself with competent and honest people to help him out.

I really liked Obama from day one but last night, he earned my respect! I hope I can see something of similar nature in Iraq one day. Cheers.

It is GRAND news, alhamdulillah. i don't think iraqis have to worry just yet, i think obama will slowly withdraw the troops over time, just like bush wanted to.

a Jenga tower so bright.

November 5, 2008 at 7:38 PM

Neurotica,
I share your hopes for a presidential era full of "Good Change" and without disappointments. We are all waiting for a change that will make the world and especially Iraq a more tranquil & peaceful place to live.

Leo, I agree with you regarding Obama's smile during the speech. It was a nervous smile. I wish him strength and guidance in living up to the expectations that he has set for America and the World.

November 5, 2008 at 7:53 PM

Lol Anon. I still think Obama is great

Solo, I have a very good reason to say that statement because I know alot of my coworkers were kinda having Obama Phobia, or maybe Black phobia. I think Americans should unite and let those superficial differences behind their backs....

Yes indeed notorious!!!

Anon, thats a good suggestion. The Hague. Do you think Obama will be the solution to the financial crisis? I love his Tax cut ideas for the low income people. Kinda makes him like robinhood, No?Although he wont be stealing...

Leo, yeah I saw that too. God I have Od'd on his speech. You know he should be nervous, cuz the way ahead of him is really tight. Tight and thorny. He has so much on his plate, so many thing policies to correct and clean from the leftover Bush era. I wonder where the hell is he gonna start...And then Hoshyar comes along, saying the US policy will not change towards Iraq. Obama promised us. Huh!!! WTH!!!

Thats the thing Fatima, I hope that wont be the case. Iraqis have to start depending on themselves.

Free Spirit, Inshallah, lets hope that happens.

November 5, 2008 at 9:12 PM

The withdrawal of troops will most likely be the same or nearly the same as under the Bush proposal.

How that plays out for Iraqis is more dependent on Iraqis than on Obama so while I wish I could say yes, this will be better for you, honesty requires that I say it really is not our call how things turn out.

Will Obama be less rigid to negotiate with? Absolutely. Will he be less interested in trying to squeeze oil or profits out of Iraq? Absolutely. Will he be less interested in trying to control who holds power in Iraq? Absolutely. If those things are on your list then certainly Obama will be an improvemnet.

Will an Obama presidency make any difference in the day to day life of Iraqi citizens? That is really up to Iraqi citizens.

"All the women in america are shaving their coochies in support of Obama. NO MORE BUSH!"

November 6, 2008 at 6:44 AM

"Will he be less interested in trying to squeeze oil or profits out of Iraq?"

Can someone explain what this means to me? All of Iraq's oil revenues go to the Iraqi government. All oil in the world is sold at (and bought at) the same price.

"not your mama," no country (not even America) controls the price of oil . . . the global market does.

neurotic_wife, under the Petraeus/Bush/Maliki plan, all internal security in all of Iraq will be managed by the Iraqi army and Iraqi police by next summer. Obama will stick to the same schedule.

By February, all security in 17 out of 18 provinces (all except Baghdad) will be managed by by the Iraqi army and Iraqi police.

November 6, 2008 at 9:27 AM

The truth is that the Iraqi army is less dependent on MNF-I than many civilian ministries in the GoI (Government of Iraq.) Without American support, the education ministry, electricity ministry, and health ministry cannot function.

Most Americans are furious with Iraqis about this. They wonder why, after 4 1/2 years of sovereignty, the Iraqi civilian ministries cannot function despite substantial funding from Iraq's oil revenues, and substantial American help.

Why are the different parts of the Iraqi government and Iraqi civil society so incompetent?

The vast majority of Ameicans also get very angry when they are accused of stealing from Iraqis. Americans have spent more than 4,000 lives and more than $1 trillion of their hard earned and precious taxpayer money to try to help Iraqis (even if incompetently.) Americans haven't stolen any Iraqi money.

We Americans might not be very smart or competent, or knowledgeable, but we didn't steal from Iraq.

November 6, 2008 at 9:33 AM

i have high hopes and some over-the-top expectations for president-elect obama. but if he can push things in the correct direction, towards a government that listens to people before charging off doing whatever, and respecting people and using it's power to do good, then he'll be a wonderful president. we'll see.

November 6, 2008 at 3:35 PM

Not your mama, alot of the people I have spoken to so far about how happy I am that Obama is the pres elect, they said, dont put your hopes too high. Nothing will change as far as Iraq!!! That just put me down. But I wont lose hope. Im here, waiting. Waiting for change...

Anand, not sure who said anything about stealing???Its the Iraqi govt thats stealing. I will write a post about it soon. Im happy that finally the Americans decided its time. Time for something fresh. Fresh and young. As I said I hope I wont be disappointed, nor the Americans

Seraphine, ditto

November 6, 2008 at 5:33 PM

The only Iraqi ministry that works well is the MoD (Ministry of Defense.) All the other GoI (Government of Iraq) ministries are not functioning efficiently. Why is this?

Neurotic, you probably heard that the GoI has cut spending this year to $67 billion from a previously planned $80 billion because of lower oil prices. Oil prices have fallen a lot lower in recent days, so expect large additional spending cuts.

Neurotic, America already decided to leave some time ago. They plan to give up all internal security responsibilities to the IA and IP (Iraqi army and Iraqi Police) by May/June. This has been the plan all along. This was suppose to happen much sooner, but Bush delayed the planned withdrawal until 2009 in an attempt to reduce Iraqi violence before US troops withdrew.

I have a question:
The the vast majority of Iraqis love and trust the Iraqi Army? Do they think the Iraqi Army is tough, and fights well? Do the Iraqi people think that their army can protect them from Iraq's neighbors, Saddamists and Takfiris? What are the perceptions of the Iraqi Army by the Iraqi people?

November 6, 2008 at 6:51 PM

We Americans might not be very smart or competent, or knowledgeable, but we didn't steal from Iraq.

ANAND:
Do you think you speak for all Americans? I like to think that I am intelligent, competent and knowledgeable. People like you are the reason the rest of the world has such hatred for Americans.

November 6, 2008 at 7:43 PM

Apologies. Some Americans are not "intelligent, competent and knowledgeable." Such as Murtha, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ricardo Sanchez, Tommy Franks, and most members of congress from "BOTH" parties.

All of them have made massive and very stupid mistakes.

The smartest and best among us tend to join the uniformed military and the private sector. Many GIs and private sector people are quite smart.

I wonder what most Iraqis think about individual GIs? Do they think GIs are smart? competent? well intentioned? good fighters? The opposite of these things?

Unfortunately the large majority of Iraqis do not interact closely with America soldiers anymore (the ISF manage all security in 13 out of 18 Iraqi provinces.)

November 6, 2008 at 7:57 PM

Neurotica...I read your blog all the time, but I dont think I have commented before.

I am Canadian, and like you...I am thrilled beyond words that my American friends and neighbours have elected this wonderful man.

I do believe much will change. Even if its just a monumental shift in the US Administrations attitude toward your country..mine..and many others...it will be grand.

The world is celebrating.

Neurotica, there is a (rather idiotic) satyrical post on this post of yours at that notorious website deceptively named 'Iraqi Bloggers Central' (it's actually the den of four looney Bushist Americans).

November 7, 2008 at 4:08 AM

the problem with you NIW is that your duplicity and stupidity have no limits.
you are happy that obama won? when you have spent several years working for the exact same people who occupied and destroyed "your" country. have you got no shame at all ?

November 8, 2008 at 10:25 PM

What is your problem with Neurotica Anonymous? She loves her beloved Iraq. What is wrong with that?

November 8, 2008 at 10:27 PM

As an American, I felt and continue to feel deep shame for what the Bush government has done to your country. I actively campaigned against Bush and twice he stole the election, but it is still a shame upon America.

I know Obama will do better. He won't be able to do everything he wants to do, but he will do better and I believe he genuinely wishes Iraq and Iraqis well.

November 9, 2008 at 2:39 AM

Anand, an answer to your question about the Iraqi Army, there are mixed feelings. It depends who you talk to really. Many people still dont trust them, and see them as a tool for some parties. Others, who I guess have member of their family in the army, ofcourse believes in them. I personally have mixed feelings. When people mention a military Coup, I doubt that will ever happen, simply because the army's loyalty is not with their country like it should be, their loyalty lies within sects, parties etc...

Laurie,I realized a few things. The people that got upset, got upset for selfish reasons. Like for eg my friends in Baghdad. The Americans were upset Obama got it, simply because now, they fear for their jobs in Iraq, and the money theyre making. The Iraqi I asked, some werent happy, cuz theyre scared of the consequences that pulling troops will have on them.

Now, the ones who wanted Obama, same. For selfish reasons, I want him to pull out the troops. So there really isnt a right or wrong here. Its all relative.

Thanks Anon!It was your comment that made me go to the IBC website and read what they had on me there...

Lol Anon, your words dont effect me. YES I AM HAPPY OBAMA WON. Get over it. And if you dont like what I write then STOP reading....

Anand, I feel a hint of sarcsam there, but I dont mind :)

Anon, I hope so too!!!But I guess not many share our views

November 9, 2008 at 7:50 AM

yes, we are very happy here in the USA finally they did not steal another election. probably because there is no money left. you know when our coffers are full they do not let democrats run the government, they always want to stealk the money (the republicans). to the hague i say! (but this will not happen). by all means never listen to anand when he talks about stupid things like "Most Americans are furious with Iraqis about this.' most americans are not furious at iraqis for anything, they feel guilty. also when he says 'The vast majority of Ameicans also get very angry when they are accused of stealing from Iraqis.' this has got to be the most idiotic thing. the vast majority of americans know damn well cheneyco has intentions to steal all iraqs wealth and that we fught resource wars to steal (force a country to deal) resources we don't have.

peace be with you.

November 11, 2008 at 9:47 AM

Annie, American taxpayers will soon have spent a trillion dollars in Iraq. American taxpayers have gotten nothing from Iraq, nor do American taxpayers expect to get anything from Iraq. Annie, prove that the American taxpayers could have reasonably expected to get anything from Iraq. You can't.

"cheneyco has intentions to steal all iraqs wealth and that we fught resource wars to steal (force a country to deal) resources we don't have." Prove it. How has Cheney personally benefited from anything regarding Iraq.

Now Cheney might have a low IQ, be stupid, unsophisticated and uninformed. Cheney is probably naive and green. Competence just isn't his thing. But that is no excuse for accusing him of personally stealing from American taxpayers or Iraqis.

Annie, don't flounder around. Put up or shut up. Provide evidence or apologize.

Neurotica, I didn't intend any sarcasm. I have liked your blog quite a bit . . . ever since Mojo told me about you. Mojo thinks highly of your blog.

Neurotica, are all the militias and bad people afraid of the Iraqi Army. Do they think the Iraqi Army would smash them if they fought with the Iraqi Army? Many American GIs think that large parts of the Iraqi Army fight very well. In fact, many Americans now think that seven out of fourteen Iraqi Army divisions (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th Iraqi Army divisions) are better quality than any Arab army other than Jordan's army.

November 11, 2008 at 10:27 AM

"The Bush administration that lied, tricked, conned the world, and most of all conned the Iraqis"

I am totally confused. I think that you welcomed the US-Military invasion "Freedon Iraq" and you even enjoy working with them! And now you say that Bush & Cie are liers, and they conned Iraqis!

I know many people who always support the powerfull of the moment.
