Refugees of our Own Making...

Did I ever tell you how much I hate DUST!!!Ughhhhh…We’ve been having a dust storm for the past 2 days, and night before last it came to its peak. I felt my nostrils exploding and knew that come yesterday morning, Im gonna have a party with my bleeding nose. Sure enough, that’s exactly what happened.

As for HUBBY, well, he had a different kinda party. His compound was bombarded by rockets. And no, it wasn’t Camp Victory, that’s another one that got hit badly. But his, was not even publicized on any of the media, which was weird. Especially when three lives were lost due to the attack. So HUBBY had no electricity, no water, and hence, no internet communications. I was calling him every 2 hours to see if he was ok. Kinda was like déjà vu and took me back to the time when he was here, and I was back in AD during our first year of marriage. Ughhh, I hated those times so much. I literally would get sick from worrying.

Its Thursday, which means tomorrow is candle reflection day, yaaaaaaaaaaaaay. Tomorrow is also the 2 year anniversary of the horrendous Samarra bombings. Which happens to coincide with Muqtada’s cease fire expiration, supposedly ending on Saturday. HUBBY was telling me last night that he has a strong feeling things will get outta hand in the next couple of days and weeks, especially between the rival Shia groups. I don’t doubt that whatsoever. Which leads me to believe that I have a few stressful weeks even months of worrying ahead of me. HUBBY is not exactly in a safe place. Their compound gets pounded heavily every night, cease fire or no cease fire.

Not sure if this havoc will ever come to an end. If our amazingly nationalistic, patriotic government admits that security somehow did improve in the last six months due to Mahdi’s stand off, then can someone tell me why the Friggin HELL aren’t they disbanding this army and the other armies??? It just goes to show you that this government has no balls. Hmmm, no balls and no brains, I wonder what that makes them? A bunch of sissies??? A waste of space? That’s a tough question, don’t you think. Takes a real genius to answer.

They really have tainted Iraqis’ reputation. Iraqi men were infamous for their machoness, strength and brains amongst the Arab world. They were respected everywhere they stepped their foot in. And here we are today, instead of the machoness we have sissiness. Instead of the strength, we have utter weakness, and instead of the brains we have point blank dead cerebellum. And most shameful of all, instead of the respect, we have worthless dirty soles walking all over us.

I have no more words to say for now. I will leave you with this caricature that a coworker of mine sent to me. The stars have packed their bags with one of them saying "We thought its ONLY the IRAQI PEOPLE that get driven out of their homes due to the Militias and Parliament" (or something along these lines). Stars or no Stars, We have all become Refugees. Refugees of our own Making...

I like the new format - big improvement in readability. Thanks for hanging in there - keep up the good work! Chas

NIW,

Have you ever had a dream where you are trying to scream, but nothing comes out? No one can hear you? No one in the government is listening to the people screaming, screaming for change.

Always,
Melanie

The right time to go after the Mahdi Army was way back in 2004. Before the first election, even. When the US was still sovereign. I've never been able to understand why Sadr was tolerated, even after he started openly warring against the US. Insanity. I found that more disheartening than anything else, back then.

Hmmm, no balls and no brains, I wonder what that makes them? A bunch of sissies??? A waste of space? That’s a tough question, don’t you think.

Democracies are rarely effective when it comes to waging wars. And Iraq's current government seems to take corruption and incompetence to a whole new level. Maybe the best solution would be to place the military and police under the command of a strong general (a real military man, not a politician in a uniform) and for the civilian government to keep interference to a minimum. I know the US military always functions best when the politicians keep their mouths shut and let the military do its job.

"Hmmm, no balls and no brains, I wonder what that makes them?"

That probably makes them successful politicians with no fear of losing their jobs. Have they had a shred of clear mind or vision they would have been replaced in no time.

Wish both them and the dust will disappear soon.

"Hmmm, no balls and no brains, I wonder what that makes them?"

well, let's look at their side too. if the americans leave, which is more than a possibility depending on who is the next US president, then what will happen to those who fought the rebels? we must remember that when Mr. Pahlavi left Iran most of his staff were left behind. the same when Batista left Cuba.

Hello NIW,

Sorry to hear about the dust, must be irritating. On another matter I did not hear anything about either bombings through news reports, but of course Britney Spears was in court yesterday, just like I told you before here in America that seems to be more news worthy than what is going on in the rest of the world. I learn more about what is actually going on in Iraq from your blog than I do from the American Press (they really suck). Hope you are doing well and look forward to your next post.

Human Beings continually form and repeat the same basic, instinctive patterns unless disturbed. Britney Spears is like a security update for the elderly. Iconography makes the effort of putting a face with a figure, such as John F. Kennedy and what he stood for. Some people who had parents who conductively grew them in constant cycles helped their children identify a trusted face that would never cheat or leave them alone to die. Like the Muslim faith Catholics found women had the tendency to leave the cycle of reassurance and manufacture the face of the multi faceted super whore such as Jackie O. When Jackie O started looking like Elvis JFK got wise to sick systems of lawlessness and debauchery and ultimately had himself shot in the head. You see JFK was actually Jackie O and they could of waited until the man completed his term in office before turning him into a super whore or maybe providing him with some education on why he had to raise a nation and how he could of found a better way out. Anyway, shut the fuck up .

If theirs a problem we can get rid of all those memorial plaques around D.C.

Heck NIW, I haven't heard much good about the Iraqi government from anybody. I agree with Programmer Craig that Sadr should have been taken care of a long time ago. What is good, are the many stories I've heard about Iraqi people(both Shia and Sunni)taking a stand against al Qaeda. That's the kind of unity that works. Where else does the real power lay but with the people? By the way I've got some Ben and Jerrys Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream :D Solo

Well, not sure if this cease fire is in effect, or maybe someone didnt get the message yet from Mahdi's army, this morning, the GZ was pounded. We were under lockdown for about 40 mins...A nice way to start off the week, wouldnt you say :)

February 23, 2008 at 6:47 AM

You live in an indestructible house where all calendars start on Friday?

It's your start off. Does your company let you use Google Earth? I found some Google Earth. How do you find your prison again? Sorry I don't have any pound for your week? I can look at Iraq, they really mash the place up? Our sandcastles grew green trees here. Yours in flat.

Muqtada was tolerated and even supported by the US because he assisted in driving a wedge between Shia and Sunni. The USA successfully used machiavellian tactics, ie "divide and conquer".
The "awakening" is another successful tactic to divide Sunnis, who have been the main core of occupation resistance, into smaller groups.
What the US is doing is to continue cutting and dividing to prevent any chance of united resistance.
