No one is immune...

Two hours back the GZ was targeted. HUBBY and I decided to have food to go from my dfac and sit outside since the weather is rather nice. As we began to eat, I was looking out straight, when all of a sudden I saw something hit a building and BOOOOOOM. Flares of fire began to errupt. An Orange light, lit up the sky and the loudspeakers told us to take cover. At the same time, the muathin's in the GZ mosques started to say their prayers.

HUBBY pulled me into the bunker, I kept telling him no, but he wouldnt listen. I have to say, that my first thought was my workplace was hit. We later found out where the rocket landed, and for security reasons, I cant say much. So far we heard of no casualties, thank god, but one person was injured from the shrapnel. Thats all I can say for now...

You can see as the all clear was given out, people went out of their safety places, with faces ashen. But after awhile, everything went back to normal. If people think that the gz is a safe haven, then think twice. Its definitely the safest place in Baghdad, theres no doubt, but its also a target... Its true we have those depressing twalls, and the loads of checkpoints, but if a rocket knows its target, then it cant go wrong... No Twall can stop it and no checkpoint guard can control it. This is how it is here in Iraq. No one is safe. No one is immune.

I am glad you are ok. I can imagine you getting back quick to your room running, decided to share with us (your other family) your fears and thought.

Next time, extend your objection to your HUBBY about the bunker thing, and tell him to get shelter outside Iraq, because as you mentioned, the GZ is no difference from the rest of Baghdad.

There are a lot of good people lost their lives because of this random slaughter, I wish you health and long living, but I am one of those many friends who don't want to lose you

Take care

So very glad you are safe. Can I ask why you wanted to resist Hubby in going to the bunker?
take care

I'm so glad you are both OK too. I'm also thankful that you were both together at this time so didn't have the worry about where each of you were. Yes no where is immune and we marvel at your bravery and thank you for keeping us informed of how life is really like for you in the GZ.

Blessings.

Here is a story on Bechtel finishing work in Iraq. They lost 52 workers but managed to complete 97 out of 99 projects.

A worrying claim: "Making matters worse, Iraqi workers haven't maintained some of the repaired electrical plants."

I have been reading your blog since my hubby went over there last Spring and really enjoy it. My hubby is home now from the GZ because I caught him having a little fling with an Iraq women in his office. I have a question....don't these women know that most of the men over there are MARRIED????? Do they think that the men will get them out of the country???? I'm having a hard time dealing with this. He never did this in the states!!!! I use to have respect for the Iraq women, and actually felt sorry for them being there.....not any more!!!! Hope you and hubby stay safe!!!!! As you said, no place is safe there, not from the mortars, insugents, or women!!!!!

Scary no, but I was worried shitless thinking that something happened to my colleagues...

Thanx Anon, but as I said, no one is safe here...

Mixmax, I really appreciate your sentiments, thanx...Bes shasaweela il rajlee, rasa qawee...

TG, well, as I saw the flame in my own eyes, I started crying and began to run towards my workplace, thats why I resisted HUBBY. He kept pulling me, and I was telling him to let go...I really really thought it was work that was hit, couldnt just run away from it...

Beams, thanx, Im at loss for words here...If HUBBY wasnt with me at that moment, OMG, I think I would have gone crazy. Thank God we were together...I really Thank God for that...

eeee Wallah Marshmallow, allah isa3dikum, whoever I talk to here is sooooo depressed, they all have lost hope, bes hem ingool Allah Kareem...

OJ its not only Bechtel that is leaving or has left...Many many more will leave in the next year. In my workplace theres a deadline of 15 Dec to handover projects to Iraqis, as in Expats are no longer steering the wheels here. A very good sign of giving control to Iraqis...Lets hope they know how to manage...

Anon, I wanna ask you this, how did you catch him, if he was here and you were there??? Besides, I think its unfair to generalise. In every country you go to, there are desperate people, who do whatever they can to survive. Im not justyfing anything, but I guess, the men too are to be blamed. If they are happily married then they should never look elsewhere. Im not trying to undermine your hubby, I think I would go crazy if I ever found HUBBY being unfaithful to me, anyone would...Its just that Ive seen how things are, and you are right in some retrospect, some girls even I cant believe they do what they do here just to get their ticket out of here...But as I said, look anywhere in the world, and you will find the same phenomena...

Anon, you think so??? Ive been to many, any suggestions for more??? and why??? I think im as discreet as can be...

I heard yesterday that the shelling on the GZ you mentioned here was targeted on Al Hakim's head quarters. They announced it on one of the satelite channels. Some guards were injured as a result!
